143 In Memory of
William Albert "Bill" Messervey

May 18, 1920 - May 29, 2015
Obituary

Passed peacefully May 29, 2015 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre with loving family at his side. Born May 18, 1920 in Brantford, Ontario, "Bill" was raised and educated in Halifax, NS, where he obtained degrees in Geology and Electrical Engineering. In 1943, Bill commenced a 40-year career with CGE in Peterborough. As design engineer and subsequently Engineering Manager - Drive Systems, Bill became a recognized expert in paper machine drives and control, gaining the respect and friendship of clients across Canada and as far afield as New Zealand. Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend Katherine "Kay" (nee Cox). Married July 20, 1946, they were partners for almost 69 years. Also survived by sons David (Judy), Robert (Karen) and daughters Judy and Elizabeth (Brian). Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Andrew (Lindsay), Jonathan (Katie), Michael (Sarah), Jennifer (Janyne), Jillian, Sarah (Adrian), Alissa, Adam, Lauren and Daniel. Fondly remembered by great-grandchildren Leah, Willa, Hudson, Savannah and Austin. Bill was a kind and gentle man and gained many friends over his lifetime. As a younger man, he enjoyed many outdoor activities, including rowing his dory at the family cottage at Hubbards, NS. He later enjoyed golf, cross-country skiing and his greatest joy, camping with his family. He and Kay enjoyed numerous vacations in Myrtle Beach with their many friends, and where Bill showed his prowess on the golf course by scoring a hole-in-one at the challenging National Golf Club. He was a devoted member of Trinity United Church, where he was a choir member and Sunday School teacher. A self-taught piano and organ player, he could bring a crowd to life with his 'boogie-woogie' and jazz renditions. A true "Bluenoser" at heart, his eyes would light up at the prospects of a good seafood dinner. But above all, he was a family man. He will be missed.

Memorial events will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid Street, Peterborough with visitation from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. in the Parlour followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 noon in the Sanctuary. If so desired, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Trinity United Church or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockfuneralhome.com.
